Attendance Information

Attendance Secretary - Amy McVay - 425-431-4302

In the event your student is out of school please call the school each day your student is absent. If you receive the attendance message line please leave a message with your student’s name, the date of absence, reason for absence, and your name. When your student returns to school please send a note with them stating the dates of absences and reason. These notes are kept on file during your student’s enrollment at MMS.

Tardies

Before 8:05, tardy students will be "swept" by planning period teachers. After 8:05, students go to the attendance window for an admit slip.

Early Dismissals

1. Bring note to school day of early dismissal.

2. Get early dismissal slip from attendance office.

3. Show early dismissal slip to teacher before you leave home.

During an absence students can best keep track of what is happening in their classes by contacting another student in each class (homework buddies are a great way to keep on top of school work). Students may also access teacher websites to see if there is work they missed in class that they can complete at home. We also recommend that students continue reading while at home.

Homework Requests

After two days of absences, parents are encouraged to telephone the attendance office after 8:30a.m. to request that homework be obtained and picked up the next day (third day). For the first two absences, our main concern is that our students regain their health. Upon returning to school, students are responsible for checking in with teachers in order to make up outstanding assignments.

Becca Bill Letters

Becca Bill (attendance) issues are managed at the district level and not in the schools. Linda Ellis (at the district) frequently generates absence reports and sends out letters to all students who accumulate two unexcused absences and then again with five unexcused absences. Informing the school of your student’s absence will help keep these letters from being generated. It is possible for a student to be absent (unexcused – no call to school) and a letter generated during this absence. Students have 48 hours to bring in a note to get an absence excused. If this occurs and the absences are excused, please accept our apologies for the letter and disregard the information. Attendance data sheets are available from the attendance office. MMS works to maintain consistency with WAC 180-40-010, which state that “all students will attend and be punctual at regularly scheduled classes unless officially excused.”

If you have any questions about attendance procedures, what to do when your student is absent, or the Becca Bill, please do not hesitate to call the attendance office at 425-431-4302.
